Graduate Building Surveyor, Birmingham Office
Degree in Building Surveying from the University of Wolverhampton
Joined Quantem in 2015
I have been involved with a diverse range of work since joining Quantem which has been key to my continued development. Quantem have given me the opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge first hand by involving me on everything from condition surveys and dilapidations to pre-acquisition surveys and contract administration, which has been important in developing my core and optional competences under the Building Surveying APC. I am encouraged to attend relevant CPD sessions and networking events to enhance my own profile within the industry as well as the companies.
I was drawn to becoming a Building Surveyor by the breadth of work involved and the balance between being in the office and on-site. Quantem are providing this balance and I regularly find myself on site meeting new people and discovering new things and feel there is no better way to learn than being on a survey or a construction site.
I report directly to Associates and Partners within the business and I'm always encouraged to take personal responsibility for my tasks. This allows me to fully understand the roles and responsibilities, whilst making me feel a valued member of the team who is able to contribute at any opportunity.
I enjoy the office dynamics, there is a great mix of people and different professions which provides a great source of personal and professional connection. Everyone always has time to provide guidance and support, which is essential for any graduate role.
Graduate Quantity Surveyor, London Office
Degree in Quantity Surveying from Kingston University, London
Joined Quantem in 2015
I first heard about Quantem through the Kingston Student Portal; I read an article online about how the business was going from strength to strength and it appealed to me as a growing company with a great business model.
One of the unique features of Quantem is the client exposure right from the beginning of your career. On all of the projects I have worked on so far, I have been in contact with the entire project team. It has allowed me to be fully involved and witness how the design translates to the finished project.
The graduate scheme prepares you to work independently from the start. Quantem encourages you to shape your own career and gain experience in all aspects of Quantity Surveying, from pre-contract right through to the final account and post contract tasks. APC workshops are run internally once a month and generally focus on two competencies per session. It's a great forum which helps to build my skill set and enables to focus on passing my APC.
"Straight away I felt at home amongst a young and enthusiastic team backed up by a real depth of industry experience"
Trainee Quantity Surveyor, London Office
Currently studying a degree in Quantity Surveying at The University College of Estate Management
Joined Quantem in 2015
I was looking to join a company in the construction field, specifically a surveying position, as I was seeking a mix of office based work and site experience. I approached a few companies but Quantem stood out as being the best suited. Straight away I felt at home amongst a young and enthusiastic team but was also given great confidence as this is backed up by a real depth of industry experience for me to draw upon.
I was keen to have a very hands on training route and Quantem facilitated this by offering me a full time trainee position and sponsoring me to undertake my academic education alongside this. Thanks to this I have already had the opportunity for more site experience than most graduates.
Within the past year my knowledge of the industry, company and quantity surveying has grown and in the future with continued learning and support I hope to complete my degree and APC and progress myself within the company.
